Florianópolis

Florianópolis is the state capital of Santa Catarina and one of the three islands-capital in Brazil. First called “Nossa Senhora do Desterro”, an allusion to its patron, or just “Desterro”, its name was changed at the end of the Federalist Revolution, in 1894, in honor of then President of the Republic, Floriano Peixoto. From this name derives the nickname Floripa, for which the city is widely known.
